Miners Hat,  with a carbine lamp attached.
“ This is a great mining country…There are prospects located everywhere; the most promising prospect I can see is that everybody will starve if they don’t go to work.”
C.F.B Haskell
1890
Ever Since the gold rush days, prospectors sought new places to make their fortunes.  And why not Bonner County, which lay only 60 miles north of the rich Coeur d’Alene mineral belt.  Hopes were high that the Weber mines or the Blue Bird, Keep Cool, Farmer Jones, Black Jack or a hundred others would mean instant riches.  Even a $250,000 smelter was built to process all the ore just waiting to be found.  Ore was found, some in paying quantities, but generally disappointment was the only reward.
