Still
Bootleggers tried all manner of tricks to make and move their product.  In 1921 officers finally discovered the location of a still so well hidden in a steam table at Mothers Kitchen that it had gone undetected on multiple previous raids.  In 1927 a cleverly concealed still and five barrels of mash were found in a cow shed on the ranch of Frank Pagnotta in Priest River.  The booze-making outfit and mash were found in a well-concealed room, entrance to which could only be gained by removing the hay in the manger and then crawling underneath.  At the Canadian border, agents remained vigilant to autos attempting to transport liquor across. Many bootlegger’s took to employing women for transport, which forced the border agents to deputize any woman they could find to help in their searches.
